AFCI/GFCI Protection

Modern Protection Against Shocks and Fires

Two of the most important safety technologies in modern electrical codes are Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCIs) and Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs). These devices protect against the two most common causes of electrical fatalities and fires — and if your older home lacks them, you're missing critical protection.

GFCI Protection: Preventing Electrocution

A GFCI outlet or breaker constantly monitors the current flowing in a circuit. If it detects even a tiny imbalance — as small as 5 milliamps — it cuts power in 1/40th of a second. This is fast enough to prevent electrocution. GFCIs are required in bathrooms, kitchens, garages, outdoors, unfinished basements, and anywhere else water may be present. In older homes, these protections are often missing or limited.

AFCI Protection: Preventing Electrical Fires

Arc faults — dangerous electrical discharges that occur when wiring is damaged, loose, or deteriorating — are responsible for thousands of residential fires each year. Unlike standard breakers, AFCI breakers detect the unique electrical signature of an arc and trip the circuit before a fire can start. Current NEC editions require AFCI protection in virtually all living areas of new homes, and retrofitting older homes is one of the most impactful safety upgrades you can make.

Upgrading Your Protection

We assess your existing GFCI and AFCI coverage and install any missing protection. GFCI upgrades can often be accomplished by replacing existing outlets, while AFCI protection requires installing AFCI breakers at the panel. We ensure all work meets current NEC requirements and local code amendments.

What We Provide
