How Cove Lighting Works
A cove is a horizontal ledge built into the upper portion of a wall, or a stepped recess in a tray ceiling, that conceals the light source while allowing the light to wash upward onto the ceiling. The hidden nature of the light source creates a soft, glare-free effect that direct lighting cannot replicate. Modern high-output LED strips make this effect achievable at a reasonable cost with excellent energy efficiency.
Integration with Dimmers and Smart Controls
Cove lighting is most effective when it's dimmable — the ability to reduce the cove to a very low level creates an extraordinarily relaxing atmosphere for bedrooms and living rooms. We install cove lighting with compatible LED dimmer controls, and we can integrate it into smart home systems for scene control and automation.
New Installs and Retrofit Projects
In new construction or renovation, cove lighting can be incorporated into the architectural design of the ceiling. In existing homes, we work with your carpenter to add the cove structure and then handle the electrical installation.
